Stress: Don’t Let it Overpower You

Mimosa pudika plant, Nidikumba in Sinhala, shrivels upon touch. Its known as the Sensitive Plant. But it recovers, again and again, as the YouTube video in the link (from NikTheCat) shows. You should not let stress overpower you like this. And you can recover too, even if it does. But its always better not to go there. Avoiding the worst is always a good strategy.

The idea for this post came to me while I was compiling a post about stress responses for the Mindculture’s Blog. See: When someone is upset, your initial response matters.

As someone said the other day, what really stops us from succeeding is not the lack of talents or strengths, but out weaknesses. We are all as strong as our weakest quality. And stress can be a mighty force if you let it overcome.

Here are some inspiring and helpful quotations:

“Stress is the trash of modern life-we all generate it but if you don’t dispose of it properly, it will pile up and overtake your life.”
~Danzae Pace

“Reality is the leading cause of stress amongst those in touch with it.”
~Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner (I found attributions to both.)

Sometimes when people are under stress, they hate to think, and it’s the time when they most need to think.
~William J. Clinton

“Stress level: extreme. It’s like she was a jar with the lid screwed on too tight, and inside the jar were pickles, angry pickles, and they were fermenting, and about to explode.”
~Fiona Wood in Six Impossible Things

“You don’t know what people are really like until they’re under a lot of stress.”
~Tim Allen

“Training gives us an outlet for suppressed energies created by stress and thus tones the spirit just as exercise conditions the body.”
~Arnold Schwarzenegger

“If the problem can be solved why worry? If the problem cannot be solved worrying will do you no good.”
~Śāntideva

“A positive attitude may not solve all our problems but that is the only option we have
if we want to get out of problems.
~Subodh Gupta  in  Stress Management a Holistic Approach

“Getting stress out of your life takes more than prayer alone.
You must take action to make changes and stop doing whatever is causing the stress.
You can learn to calm down in the way you handle things.”
~Joyce Meyer

To be a champion, you have to learn to handle stress and pressure.
But if you’ve prepared mentally and physically, you don’t have to worry.
~Harvey Mackay

Wishing you all a relatively stress-free life; one in which you effectively manage the pressures without letting them overcome you!
